On April 14, 2017, I observed (via their online camera system) children in the toddler room being made to fully cover their heads during nap time, you could see how the cover was tightly tucked. I watched a provider forcefully cover a child's head with a blanket and what looked like pat the child hard on her back because she appeared to be restless. Usually, when you are patting a child to sleep, your wrist is rested on their back and you slightly raise your hand, this provider's hand was going up in the air and down on her back , this looked more like striking to me. I spoke with management about the incident and they confirmed that they played the video and also saw the incident and informed me that this was not their policy. Of course, I removed my child as the provider still works there and my son does not like to sleep with the covers over his head. My child was only their a week, I was forced to look for another daycare and pay another registration fee all because their employee did not exercise the care she should have. I asked for the 2nd week's tuition back and they refused to refund me. The owner explained that since covering children's heads during naps wasn't a written policy, they were not going to give me a refund on my second week of tuition, even though my child did not attend the second week. Long story short, be aware, I guess if the policy is not "written" then it's acceptable until the employee gets caught, they get to keep your money and the parent is stuck with taking off work and finding another daycare who WILL focus on safety of your children even if it's not "written" policy. Also, if your child is in the 2 year old toddler class you might want to ask to watch the video from April 14 and make sure it wasn't your child who was being struck. I am furious that they are being technical and making the argument that yes it was wrong what the provider did but it wasn't a written policy at the time. People who want to do harm to children bank on this type of ignorance and often allege "Well, I didn't know it wasn't allowed." Who the heck knows what else this provider has done to these children just because there is no "written" policy concerning the behavior. I would expect Kids R Kids to do more to protect our children as covering children's heads with blankets is a health hazard and just down right mean.
